Sender-receiver reciprocity is a process based on role-taking and feedback that seeks to minimize the influence of noise factors that may inhibit understanding of the message.  In order to engage in this process, both individuals involved in the interaction must be simultaneously engaging in role-taking and feedback while adapting their behavior to each other (DeFleur, 2005).

Examples:

1.  One person begins to talk while the other appears to be attentively listening.  The speaker then becomes more systematic in his/her presentation.
2.  One person places an index finger to his/her mouth, causing the speaker to lower his/her voice.  The listener then removes the finger from the mouth while the speaker continues to talk quieter.
3.  A man may offer a woman a compliment, causing her to smile.  Because of the smile, he may provide more positive reinforcement, causing her to smile more and even blush.
